Mom listened to William!

So I didn't really know what was going on tonight. Mom and Dad were here, then they left and came back and smelled funny. Then they left and came back again, only this time Mom was crying. So what does this have to do with William?

Well it appears that there is a cat rescue agency right here close to us in our neighborhood, and Mom and Dad went to see other cats tonight! First they saw some kittens, then they saw and older cat who is my age... which is still technically a kitten, but the first kittens they saw were really small kittens. I only know all of this because when Mom came home and was crying and playing with me, I thought it was strange that she was crying because she never cries while we play! She always giggles and says "nice jump" or something like that. So I tried to figure out what was going on (of course while wildly chasing my feathers) and listened to her phone conversation. Anyway, it seems that Mom and Dad went to dinner and discussed getting me the older cat to have as my brother, but when they went back to visit him again, he was showing some signs of aggression and it really concerned Mom and Dad that he might be rough with me. I really wouldn't want that. So they decided to get me a sister (like William suggested!)... one of the little kittens. But Mommy was crying because she felt so bad for the older cat, especially because he's been abused in the past and lived on the street for awhile, and little kittens always find homes faster than older cats. She really wanted to take him and give him a home (so did Dad), but he would have required a lot of work... getting him to trust and feel comfortable... and since the whole point was to get a friend for me, they were reluctant to bring him home... especially since he bit them three times. Mom said if they didn't have me it would have been different, but they have to look out for my best interests as well. He's with people right now who will care for him until he finds a home... it's a no kill organization and they really have the best interests of the cats at heart, but I guess Mom just wants to save everyone. That's what Dad says. She says if we lived in a house it would be different, but right now they are limited to what they can do. So she's still sad tonight.

I guess my new sister will come next week sometime. She's only 5 weeks old right now, but she really seemed to like my Dad. I'll post more about her then. I have a feeling I'll be posting even more now. I've always wanted a sister or a brother, but I'm starting to get a little unsure about it. I'll post about that later though. For now, if you have any comments or thoughts you could share with my Mom, I would appreciate it. I don't like it when she cries. It gives me so much more work to do when I give her nightly facial.

My mom knows how she feels. If she could, she would save every creature on the planet! Mom said even when you can't take them you can still advocate for them by encouraging others to adopt and or foster. She also said she's had her share of hard losses too, and is hard is it is you can only do your best and put the rest in God's hands and pray for them. We hope this helps and we pray for all animals needing a forever home.

Wow, Mattingly, how cool is this? I guarantee, you'll have a lot of fun with your new sister. We all can't wait to meet her!

Tell your mom to try not to worry about that older baby. He'll be OK and find a home some day when he's ready. And your mom and dad really did need to keep you foremost in mind when getting you a sib. I know when both my sisters came to live with us Mom considered me and Eddie first, always.

Congrats on getting a little sister to boss around! When Brach first came to visit, I made it clear to him who was the Empress and who was the peasant. Mom had a laundry basket filled with books she was donating and he climbed in. I gave him a few swats.

It's no wonder he hid for about a week!

When you have an existing cat(s), this is something you do have to be cognizant of. Otherwise instead of one happy cat and one lonely miserable cat, you now have two miserable cats. When we had to send Alyssa to her next great adventure, We looked at an older cat too. We actually tried to find an older long hair cat since they tend to be avoided like the plague. We found a beautiful girl named Boo at the Humane Society. We were going to adopt her, but the Vet report said that she did not like socializing with other cats. So we had to pass. We still think about her and wonder if she ever found her forever home.

Mattingly, tell your mommy not to worry - that other kitty will find a forever home. Sometimes it just takes kitties a while to learn that people are not all mean. your mommy and daddy were right to think of you first. We are glad that you are getting a little sister! We can't wait to see pikshurs of bof of you playing togefur.

oh, poor older kitty and poor Mom. my Mom gets sad too when she sees the older ones. she always tells me she does the best she can and would 'dopt 'em all if she could. she always says if she ever wins a lotta money she'll open a kitty sanctuary. that would be way cool.

Mattingly, I know how your Mom feels. I would like to save all the poor homeless kitties and doggies too. I have five indoor furkids whom I love very much. For the past couple of winters, I've put out food and liquid water every day, (and not only during winter; but, year round) for the stray kitties in the area. Some of these outdoor kitties seem to be very sweet, loving, and gentle. I would have took them into the house except I felt that it wouldn't be fair to my kids already inside. You know how your cats act toward strange cats. (It is a small house in town and the kids sometimes get territorial.) I tell myself that I'm doing the best that I can for those outside; still, it is hard to say no.

I like Edsel's Mom's idea: win big in the lottery and start a sanctuary for kitties. Or, if I may add to the idea, contribute a big portion of the winnings to the local shelter.

I have 2 older sissyfurs and they are a pain. I have 2 older bruddies and they are much more fun to play with.

Oh Mattingly...we're so happy for you. Now you'll have a little sister to play with and take care of. We just know you'll be a great role model and older brother!

That other kitty probably needs to be in a home by himself. Hopefully the right parents will find him.

I'm asking my Mom for a baby sister kitten and I hope she says yes!

Love,
Tipper
